Gifting with Intention: In-laws

Giving gifts to your in laws can be challenging, especially if you want to show you care.

Here are a few things I think work especially well for in-laws.

Digital Photo Frame

I thought digital frames were pretty cheesy until Aura came along. A friend of mine had one and I thought it both looked nice and offered a great way to show off the huge quantity of photos accumulated in modern parenting.

We have had our frame for two years now, and prior to that I purchased a frame for my parents and one for my in-laws as well. Everyone loves it! The app interface makes it really easy to load photos and keep the rotation fresh. My kids love to interact with the frame (you can ‘like’ photos) and routinely call each other over to it to see specific memories. It’s been a very fun addition and one I recommend frequently for a gift.

They have a new option for larger format called Ink, too! I think this is so beautiful, and a great option for anyone who loves taking photos and displaying the.

Wool Home Goods

Wool is timeless for several reasons - it’s high quality and cozy. Pair it with a brand like Pendelton Wollen Mills and you can feel really confident with that gift’s impact. This blanket is wool but is also washable, making it a great option for families and pet-friendly homes.

Coffee or Tea

A couple of options here. A sampler of coffee or tea is a great way to show some holiday love without giving more “stuff”, while still giving a thoughtful gift. I have family members who talk all year about coffee subscription gifts we’ve given!

Experiences

If you want to give a gift but a tangible one doesn’t make sense for whatever reason, a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant, a local class or experience, or airline credit can be excellent, heartfelt options. Uncommon Goods also offers a variety of giftable experiences. Most are online but they look really neat. I think these would be great for in-laws, parents or tech-savvy grandparents!
