Girls, we’re leaning into joy. I have been on a kick making phone charms - these little wrist straps attached to my phone, covered in beads, charms and glam. Maximalist, if you will. Do I get compliments from teenagers? Yes. Am I ashamed? Never!
It all started when I decided to take on yet another new craft. I HAD to have those chunky letter beads, and at the time, they were rather hard to come by. Amazon had a few, but they were overpriced. I ended up ordering from KBeads.com. This site has SO many great beads and they are very appropriately priced. Depending on what you buy, you may end up with a shipping or duty fee. Given it was coming from China, I actually found the overall price to be reasonable - especially given the variety. I have ordered from them three times now and each time I’ve been impressed. The shipping does take some time, so prepare for that.
I like the look of more than one strand of cord. I generally couple a 550 Paracord with a 95 Paracord for a phone charm. I can cram both through a 6mm holed bead (most letter beads have this sized hole). Pony beads have a smaller hole but if you melt the two cords together and work it enough, you can get both through. I also prefer for the beads to not move around much. If you wanted more movement, opt for a cord thinner than 550.
I also like a lighter with a yellow flame - lighters with blue flames tend to be too hot and leave burn marks on the cord (and the occasional finger). Be careful out there!
I’ve also found several great beads for my collection at Hobby Lobby and some from Amazon too.
I purchased with paracord bag charms in mind, and I’ve made several. But the phone charms have my heart! Something about them being so glossy and fun and near.
I hope you get tons of compliments and that your charm brings you tremendous joy! Happy crafting!
